CIMB customers will need to verify online transactions using biometric authentication or their device passcode effective Sept 19.
The new requirement applies to transactions made via CIMB Clicks Web and merchant websites, with customers required to approve them through SecureTAC on the CIMB Octo App using facial recognition, a fingerprint or their device passcode.
In an FAQ on its website, CIMB said the measure aims to provide stronger security.
"You will now need to verify your identity using biometric (Face ID or fingerprint) or a passcode when approving SecureTAC transactions. This helps protect your account from unauthorised access and fraud," it said, adding that password approval will no longer be supported.
Once verified, the transaction will be approved. The company said SecureTAC approvals will fail if customers have not set up biometric authentication or a device passcode.
Customers will see an error message prompting them to set up biometric or passcode on the CIMB Octo App.
More information is available on the CIMB website.
