CIMB boosts customer protection with new biometric authentication in Octo App

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Bank Bhd has introduced new biometric authentication in combination with its SecureTAC approval feature in its Octo App (application) as an additional layer of security for customers.

The bank said the new feature requires customers to verify transactions using biometric verification, which currently consists of Face ID or fingerprint, that will appear after the customer approves the SecureTAC.

"Once the biometric verification is complete, the transaction is completed,” it said in a statement.

CIMB said the initiative is in line with Bank Negara Malaysia’s directive to strengthen online banking security and forms part of ongoing measures to combat financial scams.

It said the new feature adds to other existing measures such as SecureTAC, Lock Clicks ID, single registered device usage and electronic know-your-customer (eKYC) for first-time app logins.

The bank also advised customers to keep their mobile device operating system and Octo App updated to the latest version, download the app only from official app stores and remain vigilant against suspicious activities. - Bernama
