Sony's latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, has launched in Malaysia, featuring a 6.5in OLED display capable of up to a 120Hz refresh rate.

On the back of the Xperia 1 VIII sits a triple camera system, with a 48-megapixel main shooter, a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. It also has a 12-megapixel selfie camera positioned in the notch at the top of the screen.

Sony has also equipped the device with an artificial intelligence (AI) Camera Assistant, which provides suggestions on how images taken with the device are processed, covering areas such as colour, exposure, and bokeh, allowing for a more customisable and personalised photography experience.

The device has a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, with a 5,000mAh battery, which Sony says lasts for up to two days.

Other features on the smartphone also include stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a dedicated camera shutter button, and the ability to expand storage up to 2TB with the microSD card slot.

The Xperia 1 VIII is available in four colour options: Graphite Black, Garnet Red, Native Gold, and Iolite Silver. It comes in a single storage configuration with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at RM6,499.

Early bird purchases are open from today until August 31, with buyers eligible for a free pair of WF-1000XM6 true wireless earbuds and a Style Cover with stand for the Xperia 1 VIII, together valued at a total of RM1,784.
