PayPal: Stop your purchase history going to advertisers in 3 steps

LOS ANGELES: What you spend your money on can say a lot about you, which is exactly why payment apps like PayPal are keen to keep track of your payment history to create a profile of you and the kinds of things you like to buy.

If you don't want PayPal to keep track of your app activity, purchase history and profile information for advertising purposes and for this to be sold to other companies, you need to head to the app's settings.

In the following three steps you can withdraw your consent to PayPal tracking your purchase history for ads:

  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Under Settings, navigate to "Data and privacy/Personalised offers and ads".
  3. Turn off the options for "Personalised offers from us" and "Personalised ads from our ad partners", if necessary.

Somewhat confusingly, a black toggle means yes and a grey toggle means no. Only if both toggles are grey have you fully withdrawn advertising consent from the company and its partners. – dpa
