Millions of iPhone and iPads are at risk for cyberattacks targeting users financial information due to an Apple security flaw.
The tech-giant recently confirmed two critical vulnerabilities in Webkit, the browser engine that powers Safari and all iOS browsers.
Fox News reports the system’s flaws are being used in “an extremely sophisticated attack” and that the problem allowed “malicious websites” to trick Apple products into running a harmful code.
Once the code is run, attackers gain control of affected devices and steal passwords or payment information.
Apple has released a patch in its latest software update, but an estimated half of Apple users haven’t installed it yet.
The software patch is included in the iOS 26, though Fox News reports nearly 800 million devices are likely still at risk.
iPhone and iPad models most at risk
Below is a list of the models most at risk of attack.
– iPhone 11 and later
– iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later
– iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later
– iPad Air 3rd generation and later
– iPad 8th generation and later
– iPad mini 5th generation and later
The only fix is updating device software.
Devices running on iOS 18 are advised to update their devices and follow these steps, Apple advises:
“Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If your iPhone is not running either iOS 26.2 or iOS 18.7.3, go to Settings > General > Shut Down and power the device off. Or you can press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.”
“.... If that doesn’t work, you can force it to restart.”
The tech-giant suggests regularly updating your devices anyway in an effort to “maintain your Apple product’s security.” – masslive.com/Tribune News Service
