An optional new feature will make Wordle Bot’s analysis more useful for players who keep a record of previous answers. — Eden Weingart/The New York Times
Since its creation, Wordle Bot has analysed hundreds of millions of Wordles, assessing players’ decisions and pointing them to the most efficient ways of solving.
The bot’s mathematical approach is hard to beat, but there was one way that players could get a major edge: ruling out the words that were past solutions. Wordle hasn’t repeated an answer yet, a fact that the bot was not set up to know.
Let’s imagine that you are trying to decide between ARISE, ASIDE and AROSE with one guess left. The first two words have been Wordle answers, so AROSE is your best shot. Because Wordle Bot couldn’t make that judgment, its analysis was less relevant for those players who keep a record of past solutions or who remember some of them.
From Nov 18, players will have the option of choosing analysis from the bot that will rule out previous answers. You can turn it on or off at any time – and for any turn if you’re curious.
To turn the feature on, click the gear icon in the upper right corner to open the settings menu. Then toggle on “Use knowledge of past solutions.”
There is no need to do anything if you prefer your current approach of not looking up what has happened in prior games.
But for players who enjoy using every piece of information when solving, it makes the bot much more useful as a judge of your skill. – ©2025 The New York Times Company
