Report: U Mobile and Unifi Mobile tie for fastest 5G download speeds in M'sia

PETALING JAYA: This year's Opensignal "Mobile Network Experience Report" saw U Mobile and Unifi Mobile share the top spot for 5G download speeds, according to data gathered from network tests between August to October this year.

U Mobile and Unifi Mobile clocked an average 5G download speed of 226.6Mbps and 229.5Mbps respectively, statistically tying their scores, while holding a lead over Yes 5G (sitting at 222.5Mbps).

Shifting to overall download speeds on the other hand saw Unifi Mobile topping the chart with a 76.6Mbps average, followed by U Mobile (67.6Mbps), Maxis (64.9Mbps), CelcomDigi (61Mbps), and Yes 5G (50.2Mbps).

When it comes to overall coverage, CelcomDigi leads with a score of 8.5 points out of 10, with Maxis rated at 6.9 points, U Mobile at 5.5, Unifi Mobile at 4.2, and Yes 5G at 3.9.

However, the coverage rating did not translate to 5G availability, with CelcomDigi’s 5G signal accessible only 47.8% of the time.

Meanwhile, U Mobile connections were on 5G 57.8% of the time, while Maxis was recorded at 52%, Yes 5G at 49.4% and Unifi Mobile at 48.5%.

For network reliability, which measures signal availability, data connectivity, task completion and capacity, Maxis holds a narrow lead over CelcomDigi, scoring 874 against 869. Reliability scores are measured on a 1,000-point scale.

They are followed by Unifi Mobile (867), U Mobile (784), and Yes 5G (783).
