Apple may be introducing ads to its navigation and mapping app as early as year, according to a report from Bloomberg, allowing businesses to pay the company for better visibility on Apple Maps.

The Bloomberg report states that ads are expected to function similarly to how they work on the Apple App Store, where developers are able to pay for better rankings in user search results.

It further states that Apple will utilise artificial intelligence in its Maps search results to provide relevant and useful results.

A 2022 report from the publication speculated that businesses that pay for better visibility in Apple Maps may be able to target specific keywords that users search for.

This would allow them to be listed first in search results if that keyword is used. For instance, a Japanese restaurant may pay for the search term "sushi", which would give it priority in the listings.
