Maxis deploying AI-powered firewall to block spam and combat fraud

Maxis has partnered with telecom solutions service provider Globe Teleservices (GTS) to deploy an artificial intelligence-powered firewall across the telco's network to enhance both messaging and voice traffic security.

According to a statement on the Maxis website, the telco will be deploying GTS's Armour firewall, with the two companies collaborating to define and enforce firewall policies for international messaging and voice traffic terminating on the Maxis network.

This in turn would serve to mitigate fraud with round-the-clock monitoring, and block spam and unauthorised message routes or channels that bypass legitimate network systems (known as grey routes).

This would also combat SIM farms, which are usually large-scale operations involving the use of many SIM cards simultaneously to send bulk messages or calls for scams and fraud purposes, or other activities such as phishing, spamming social media and overloading mobile networks.

“Customer trust and experience are central to Maxis," said Maxis chief enterprise business officer Prateek Pashine in the press statement.

"This partnership with GTS reinforces our international message and voice defences, deploying AI-powered controls and continuous monitoring to ensure that essential messages reach subscribers quickly and securely.

"This provides businesses with stronger delivery assurance and our mobile users a safer experience, all on our fast, reliable, and secure network," he said.

Maxis further stated that the partnership will result in stronger network protection and uninterrupted communication for its customers.
