Australian-made video game Hollow Knight: Silksong is captivating users who’ve waited seven years for a glimpse, shooting to the top of the charts.
Adelaide-based studio Team Cherry launched the sequel to its indie hit Hollow Knight on Sept 4 after years of near-total silence.
Only hours after its release and with some fans complaining of technical issues in the purchasing process, Silksong took the top spot on online store Steam’s rankings.
The game has big shoes to fill, with the original 2017 game selling more than 15 million copies.
Developer Ari Gibson told Bloomberg’s Game On newsletter in August that the lengthy production was the result of wanting to ensure Silksong delivered on the hype.
"It was never stuck or anything,” Gibson said. "It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time.” – Bloomberg
