A Trenton woman called police after she discovered that her email had been hacked and all of her passwords changed.

Police made contact with the woman on Oct 2 in the 1700 block of Westfield Road.

According to a police report, someone hacked into the woman’s Hotmail account and switched her email password and profile username.

As a result, the woman was not able to access her email to get it fixed.

Police said the culprit went by the account name Fatysrule on Instagram and the individual messaged random people.

The woman’s American Express card showed that someone attempted to use the account in connection with Singapore Holdings for US$1,254 (RM5,460), but it was declined.

Another transaction was attempted for an Etravel SIM purchase for US$334 (RM1,454), but it was declined as well.

The woman told police per personal checking and savings accounts had not been compromised.

Police were provided with the woman’s phone number to read her emails, which they said showed a variety of fake USPS tracking emails and emails for her other accounts with password resets.

According to the report, police saw one at the beginning of all the fraudulent activity started with an Xfinity account.

An examination of her emails showed the account to be reset and a password changed.

Her Facebook account was changed by what appeared to be someone on an iPhone in Atlanta, Ga.

Most of the transactions and activities were done outside of the state and/or out of the country.

Police told the resident to not only monitor her accounts, but also her husband and kids’ accounts as well since they all connect with the Xfinity WiFi. – The News Herald, Southgate, Mich./Tribune News Service
