PETALING JAYA: Prasarana, the owner and operator of Malaysia's rail services, including the LRT networks, KL Monorail, and MRT lines, has confirmed that a cybersecurity incident has affected part of its internal systems.

"Our cybersecurity team has identified and is tackling the incident involving unauthorised access into a number of our systems.

"Priority is on the safety and reliability of our public transportation services. We want to confirm that this incident has not disrupted our daily operations," it said in a statement today (Aug 26).

The company said it is working with cybersecurity experts and will provide timely updates.

"Our focus remains on resolving issues promptly while ensuring that our services continue to meet the needs of the public," it said.

When contacted, the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA), via the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre (NC4), acknowledged the cybersecurity incident involving Prasarana.

The agency confirmed that it has commenced an investigation with Prasarana.

"Our goal is to ascertain the extent of the breach and ensure that measures are implemented to mitigate any potential impact.

"At this juncture, Prasarana has taken the necessary actions to isolate and recover from the incident," the agency said, adding that the cybersecurity incident has had no impact on rail services.

On Aug 25, FalconFeeds.io, a threat intelligence platform, made a post on X alleging that Prasarana has been hit by a cybersecurity incident, claiming that a ransomware group has obtained 316GB of data and that it plans to publish it.
