PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration on increasingly complex competition issues across the communications and multimedia sectors.

The MoU lays the groundwork for structured collaborative efforts between MyCC and MCMC, including joint investigations, advocacy activities, capacity building, and mutual support in their respective functions.

The MoU was signed by MyCC chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus and MCMC CEO Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus.

Witnesses at the signing ceremony include the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Fujiah Salleh, MCMC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, and MyCC CEO Iskandar Ismail.

A forum titled “Fortifying Industrial Policies Through Competition” was held before the signing, with experts from the relevant fields partaking in discussion over the benefits of healthy competition for the market as a whole and consumers.

Joint efforts between the regulators have been continuous, with the goal of protecting consumer welfare and safeguarding competition in the country.

The regulators have previously cooperated in response to public complaints regarding exclusivity arrangements between telecommunications service providers and property developers or management bodies in high-rise residential buildings.

They had also collaborated in addressing competition issues related to ecommerce platforms and delivery partners.
