Life simulation game The Sims 4 will be available to all new players to download for free across various platforms including PC, Mac and PlayStation 4 starting Oct 18.
For longtime players or those who have already purchased the base game, Electronic Arts (EA) announced that they will receive a Desert Luxe Kit as a gift from now until Oct 17.
The Desert Luxe Kit comes with furniture inspired by the Southwestern desert made from material such as stone and wood. Players can redeem the kit by simply logging into the game and it will be available in the main menu to claim.
The company said it will unveil more details about future updates for The Sims 4 in the upcoming Behind The Sims Summit event on Oct 18.
The Sims 4 was first released in 2014 as a game where players take control of a character by directing their actions and helping them achieve certain goals such as getting a job, develop skills or find a romantic partner.
While the base game will be free to download later, players will have to pay for expansion packs which allow them to experience extra features such as letting their Sims own pets (The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs) and achieve fame in a Los Angeles-like town (The Sims 4: Get Famous). The latest expansion pack is The Sims 4: High School Years which let Sims explore experiences like attending high school prom and graduation.
