It’s now official that Microsoft is working on a Friends and Family plan for their Xbox Game Pass subscription service, with the company having launched a pilot test in both Colombia and Ireland – at 49,900 Colombian peso a month (RM50.27) and €21.99 a month (RM98.30) respectively.

The Friends and Family plan offers up to five members access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes a large collection of video titles available on both PC and Xbox, cloud streaming of those titles, Xbox Live Gold, and other perks not available with a standard subscription.

At time of publication, Malaysians can only subscribe to the company’s PC Game Pass, which does not have support for Xbox consoles, instead only offering its library of PC games.

The PC version of the service was made available locally back in April of this year and costs RM15 a month.

According to Microsoft’s FAQ on their website, additional countries and regions may be added to the pilot in the coming months. It should be noted that the Friends and Family plan gives subscribers access to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which is currently not available in Malaysia.

Microsoft might be planning to make Ultimate subscription tier available for us locally before bringing the new plan over, however there is also a possibility that the company may opt to instead offer a version of the Family and Friends plan for the existing PC Game Pass instead.

For those not in the know, the Game Pass is Microsoft’s monthly subscription service that gives access to a huge library of video game titles on both Xbox consoles and PC, with new titles being added to the collection each month.
