Charging electric scooters could be simplified with this induction technology

Latvian startup Meredot has developed induction technology that is capable of charging any electric scooter in less than two hours.

The wireless charging technology developed by Meredot transmits electrical energy without the help of any cords or cables. The charging process starts as soon as a scooter is positioned on a dedicated station.

The idea is that municipalities or companies can install this type of infrastructure near stores, restaurants or offices, for example.

This technology, called MePower, permits any electric scooter to get fully charged in less than two hours, regardless of its size or its position on the pavement. This solution works in all weather conditions (rain, snow...) and temperatures (from -30 to 50 degrees Celsius). It can be installed at ground level as well as slightly underground, under asphalt or cement, while snow, rain and ice have no effect on the energy transfer.

To work properly, however, it requires a compatible receiver to be placed on the scooter. Otherwise, most models on the market (and all those used by the main self-service scooter operators) are compatible with this technology.

Note that the concept of using induction charging systems has already proven itself in the automotive world, even if its use remains marginal. In the future, road segments could even be equipped with this type of technology in order to charge electric vehicles (buses, cars, scooters, bicycles, etc) while they are driving on them. – AFP Relaxnews
