This remote office in Sweden is entirely powered by an electric car

Ever dreamt of working in the middle of nature in a small designer cabin with just the sound of birds chirping and deer running past the window?

Korean carmaker Hyundai is trying to make it possible by powering a tiny wooden office on an island near Stockholm in Sweden using electricity from its Ioniq 5 battery-electric car.

The Ioniq 5 makes use of bidirectional charging to power the remote designer cabin, which is fully connected in an otherwise off-the-grid environment.

"We played with the idea of doing a project for some time," said Puisto co-founder Willem van Bolderen, "but when corona struck we decided to work on a space which would provide the full electric comfort of a city office."

Van Bolderen said the cabin was designed to have as small a carbon footprint as possible, using only wood and sustainable materials such as wool and sisal carpets and wool pillows and throws.

The office offers a heat pump, lights, sound system, TV, espresso machine, fridge, wi-fi and even a toilet - all powered by the car.

Using a unique feature called Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), the car basically transforms itself into a huge power bank.

Providing up to 3,6 kW, it can power the cabin for almost a week. A feature that can be applied to countless other applications, only limited by fantasy, said Tobias Joelsson, communications head with Hyundai Sweden.

The cabin, developed with Finnish architectural practice Studio Puisto and dubbed "Today's Office," is open for a few more weeks in the present location before moving to other places in Sweden. – dpa
