Maxis is offering its home fibre customers a new router that is WiFi 6 compliant, which promises better WiFi speeds at home.
The telco claimed that its new router, which would be bundled with selected Maxis Fibre packages, would allow faster Internet speeds and better connectivity with wider signal reach, and for more connected devices to run simultaneously at optimal speeds.
The router is also EasyMesh certified, enabling customers to expand their home WiFi network by adding their own mesh devices, including from other brands which comply with the EasyMesh standard.
Maxis Consumer head Arjun Varma said both data consumption and the number of connected devices at home are steadily increasing, making home fibre connectivity critical in users’ lives.
“With this shift in consumer behaviour and lifestyles comes the need for quality and reliable home WiFi. At Maxis, we continuously assess our customers’ needs and want to ensure that they have the best fibre experience with the latest WiFi 6 router offering,” he said in a press release.
The router is provided free for new customers who sign up for a Maxis Fibre of 100Mbps and above, while existing customers will be contacted in phases for the router upgrade exercise.
Currently, Maxis has five home fibre packages: 30Mbps (priced at RM89 per month), 100Mbps (RM129 monthly), 300Mbps (RM149 monthly), 500Mbps (RM219 monthly) and 800Mbps (RM299 monthly).
Maxis said it will also provide free installation of the router in users’ homes, to ensure that the WiFi is optimised for the best connectivity experience.
In its FAQ, it assures that older devices will work with the new WiFi 6 router, though only newer gadgets which also have WiFi 6 technology will be able to fully utilise its capabilities.
