The British Academy's 2020 video games awards ceremony delivered two multiple winners, with Luigi's Mansion 3, Untitled Goose Game and Kind Words among other laureates.

Timeloop exploration Outer Wilds and eastern European amnesiac mystery Disco Elysium won three awards each at the 2020 BAFTA Games Awards.

Outer Wilds, a PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC game about exploring a 22-minute timeloop in a miniature solar system, won the accolades for Best Game, Game Design and Original Property.

Disco Elysium has players take on the identity of a murder detective struggling to navigate a strangely real dystopia (and a strangely elusive case) amid the effects of powerful amnesia.

It launched on PC in 2019 to critical acclaim and is expected on PS4 and XBO in 2020.

At the BAFTAs it won the awards for Debut Game, Music and Narrative.

The remaining accolades embraced big studios and small indie games alike.

They included Luigi's Mansion 3 from Nintendo, Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, Call Of Duty Mobile from Activision (and Chinese mobile giant Tencent), and Apex Legends from Electronic Arts (and the Call Of Duty franchise co-founders' studio Respawn).

Video game music album hybrid experience Sayonara Wild Hearts for console, PC and mobile won in Artistic Achievement, encouraging pen-pal service Kind Words won Game Beyond Entertainment, chaotic jazz-driven rampage Ape Out won Audio Achievement, and 2019's enormous indie breakout Untitled Goose Game won the Family category.

PlayStation and PC space station thriller Observation received Best British Game and New Zealand's visceral Path Of Exile was winner of the Evolving Game Award.

Acting performances were recognised through the Leading Role and Supporting Role awards given to Gonzalo Martin of Life Is Strange 2 and Martti Suosalo of Control, and BAFTA Fellowship went to Hideo Kojima of Death Stranding and, previously, the Metal Gear Solid franchise. — AFP Relaxnews
