Pokémon Go celebrations feature more regional specials, Deoxys and themed raid battles

Pokémon Go players can now walk to find typically regional exclusive Pokémon – by hatching them from eggs – instead of flying to other countries. — Niantic

While Pokémon Go players would usually have to travel to other countries to catch rare regional monsters, this week players can catch them outside of their usual regions by just walking.

In a tweet on its official account, Pokémon Go stated this week’s bonuses will include Regional Pokémon hatching from 7km eggs with a higher chance they will be shiny, the appearance of former EX-raid boss, Deoxys, appearing in normal raids as well as Pokémon effective against Deoxys also appearing in raid battles.

Regional Pokémon are usually only available in certain countries or regions, for example Tauros is only available in North America while Corsola is only available in this region including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, India and Papua New Guinea.

Although the ones eligible to appear as shiny alternate colour versions – Farfetch’d, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime and Tauros – are not native to Malaysia, players will get a chance to find them by hatching 7km eggs.

To encourage players to walk and exercise, gamemaker Niantic has a mechanic where players will be rewarded by hatching an egg once they walk a certain distance.

During week two of the Ultra Bonus weeks, which runs from Sept 9-16, players will also be able to hatch eggs in only half the usual walking distance.

Meanwhile, for the best chance to catch the legendary Deoxys forme Pokémon, players are recommended to take advantage of the Legendary Raid Hour event next happening on Sept 11.

During the period from 6pm to 7pm, all gyms that don’t already have a raid ongoing will be guaranteed to feature a Deoxys in one of its various forms.

Raids are battles which require groups of players to work together to defeat then catch a rare monster, while EX-raid are exclusive battles that can only be joined if the player wins an invite.
