On Aug 19, Reddit announced that it will be launching a live broadcasting feature for five days to test the waters regarding streaming on its platform.
As of Aug 19, Redditors will gradually be gaining access to a new live streaming feature – only until Aug 23. RPAN, the Reddit Public Access Network, is a new Reddit "experience" which will give users around the world the ability to create live broadcasts.
For now, Redditors can only broadcast from 9AM to 5PM PT. Like conventional Reddit content, votes will dictate which streams make it to the top of community feeds. By swiping or clicking left and right, users will be able to explore new streams.
The website determined that RPAN experiences will be Safe for Work experiences; no explicit content like nudity, graphic violence, or illegal behavior will be tolerated.
The feature will be rolling out progressively until the test is complete on Aug 23 at 5PM PT (Aug 24 at 8am, Malaysia).
If successful, Reddit stated that they will experiment with implementing RPAN as a permanent feature. – AFP Relaxnews
