Apple is discreetly repairing MacBook Air 2018 units which appear to be having issues with the main logic board, according to tech portal 9to5Mac.
In an internal document sent to repair staff, Apple claims the issue only affects a “very small number” of MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018) units.
It instructed Apple Store and authorised repair staff to replace the main logic board at no cost to customers, and listed one of the symptoms as issues with “power”, but did not elaborate further.
Based on complaints online, 9to5Mac says the issue could be linked to MacBook Air units not being able to power on, which was discovered when the model was first launched.
The site says Apple will be emailing customers with affected laptops which it will identify using their serial numbers.
Apple has yet to publicly announce a repair programme or list it on its Exchange and Repair Extension Programmes list.
However, 9to5Mac notes that in some cases Apple does not list programmes that only affect a small number of devices.
Those with affected machines will have up to four years from the original purchase date to request a fix.
