Noise overload in daily life is increasingly becoming a health issue but the right audio technology goes a long way in mitigating the negative effects.
Jabra Malaysia country manager KC Yap quotes a 2018 study by research hospital UCI Health which estimates that one in five people under the age of 20 experience some form of hearing loss due to noise pollution.
He says the new Elite 85h addresses the issue using smart active noise cancelation (ANC) – eight micrphones on the headphones can identify and filter up to 6,000 types of noise.
However, he advises users to practice safe listening habits by turning on the Hear Through feature which reduces the noise cancelation effect when outdoors so they are aware of sounds around them like cars.
Many models today offer ANC, including the Sony MH-1000XM3 headphones and Bose QuietComfort 35.
He also adds that users should not increase the volume too much which they tend to do when listening in noisy environments. Yap claims Jabra headsets tend to be less loud than the competition, as its parent company, hearing aid maker GN Group, has a strict mandate.
He notes that apart from ANC, other models offer alternative noise blocking options like passive reduction through sound insulation and wind noise reduction by using onboard microphones to record and cancel out the sound.
Jabra has just released three new models with varying degrees of noise blocking – the Jabra Elite 85h (RM1,349), Jabra Move Style Edition (RM419) and Jabra Elite Active 45s (RM379).
The models are available at Jabra Malaysia retailers, All IT Hypermarket and Harvey Norman outlets.
