Android users will finally have the dark theme for YouTube, allowing a less glaring viewing experience on the video app.
Reddit users on the Android subreddit forum confirmed the introduction of the new features with screen shots, adding that it is available for version 13.35.51 onwards of the app.
YouTube had hinted that dark theme would be introduced for Android users, nearly six months after it was rolled out for iOS users.
“Fans of YouTube dark theme: tweet us questions and feedback about the feature at #ytdarktheme and a Product Manager will answer them on the YouTube Help Channel this week! P.S. Yes it’s coming soon to Android!!” tweeted YouTube on its official account.
If your device is able to run the theme, a prompt announcing it will appear at the bottom of the screen.
To change to dark theme, click on the profile photo, then settings, then general to find the on/off toggle for dark theme.
The dark theme inverts the colours of YouTube's menus and changes the white background to a greyish-black version that is less glaring.
