In April, iflix shared that it would be rolling out iflix 3.0 that includes a free tier to the streaming service as part of the company's strategy to move away from the subscription VOD (video on demand) service. Ladies and gentlemen, iflix Free is finally here.

"Now, no fan gets left behind. iflix Free is a version that's available to you as a user for free, always. You're 'Free to stay, free to play' for life," said iflix Group co-founder and CEO Mark Britt in a statement.

The free tier gives viewers iflix Originals, which will include the upcoming action-packed series KL Gangster: Underworld – a spin-off from the popular Malaysian movies – as well as stand-up comedies, Oi! Jaga Mulut, and Jon Atherton: Disoriental; as well as Coconuts TV, an original docu-series uncovering the underbelly of Asian subculture.

It will also offer Movie Of The Day, where a new movie will be added to the list every day, and subscribers can also enjoy iflix Snacks where 50 bite-sized videos are added daily. All content will be produced and managed through the company's short-form content studio, Studio2:15, and viewers can expect more programmes from local content creators from around the region. There will also be localised formats of global hits including the popular web series Hot Ones.

Local football fans can also enjoy live Liga Super, Piala FA, Piala Malaysia, Piala Sumbangsih matches via Football Malaysia. There will also be regional and international TV series, including The Grand Prince, My First Love, Poroporo, Tayo The Little Bus and more.

Everything on iflix Free is free for all users regardless of their subscription status. The company had earlier stated that iflix Free will be partially supported by advertising revenues. For viewers, this means that ads will play before the content in the form of pop ups, at least in the initial stages.
