SHAH ALAM: Oppo has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Find X, which is available for pre-order in Malaysia starting today.
The phone's distinguishing feature is its “stealth 3D camera”, a motorised segment loaded with three cameras that pops out of the top of the phone.
According to Oppo, this allows the phone to achieve a 93.8% screen ratio on its 6.42in Panoramic Arc Screen, and removes the need for a notch on the phone's top.
The Find X is equipped with 3D face recognition system, though it does not have a fingerprint unlock option. Oppo claims the smartphone uses 15,000 facial dot recognition and intelligent analysis, making it 20 times safer than fingerprint recognition for unlocking the phone, using its own OPPO R15 Pro as benchmark.
The 25-megapixel front facing camera has AI-enhanced 3D camera technology which analyses facial features plus 3D structured light technology that adds lighting effects to improve selfies.
Meanwhile, the rear camera comes with a dual camera set up with a 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel unit, that has OIS (Optical Image Stabiliser) and is able to create Bokeh depth-of-field effects.
The Find X is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor and runs on reskinned Android 8 Oreo software, the ColorOS 5.1, designed for its Panoramic Arc Screen to be more user-friendly, along with a 3,730mAh battery capable of fast charging.
Oppo Malaysia brand director Nikki Chen announced the phone can be pre-ordered offline at Oppo's Concept Store or online through their website and e-commerce partners like Lazada, 11Street, and Shopee, and that the phone goes on sale from Aug 5. Customers who pre-order the Find X will also receive a complimentary Olike Neo smartwatch worth RM399.
Both colours – Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue – will be available at launch with 8GB Ram and 256GB onboard memory at the price of RM3,699.
Find X Product Specialist Ken Ng says there are no plans to release versions with lower capacity, as their research shows 256GB capacity is expected for a phone in this price range.
He assures that durability testing has proven that the motorised camera segment is rated for five years of usage, far beyond the usual life span of a smartphone, adding the phone carries a standard one year warranty.
During the launch at Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam on July 17, a premium Oppo Find X Automobile Lamborghini Edition was also unveiled.
It features a carbon fibre textured body and its own ColorOS theme, and is able to recharge exceeding 50W allowing it to reach full charge within 35 minutes, compared to the standard 90 plus minutes. However no price and release date has been set.
