GE14: Check your voter status online

Citizens can now check that they're registered as voters via app, sms or website -EC MYsemak app

With the 14th General Election date confirmed, citizens can double check that they are registered as voters through a variety of channels provided by the Election Commission (EC).

The fastest way to check is via the MySPR Semak app, available for Android and iOS, where users can check their voting status by keying in their MyKad number.

The key information that is shown includes the user's locality, voting district, state and parliamentary seats.

With the recent redelineation exercise, users can also confirm if they have been moved to a different voting district.

Users could eventually also check for the list of candidates running and results of the election though the data is not yet available.

Those without smartphones or Internet connectivity, they can check via SMS. However, the service will cost 20 sen per request.

To check, SMS “SPR SEMAK ” to 15888. (example: “SPR SEMAK 810203011234“).

Alternately, citizens can also check the EC's own website

However, at the time of writing, we had difficulty accessing the website, probably due to heavy traffic.

Earlier today, the EC announced polling day is on Wednesday, May 9.

EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah, in a live broadcast on TV1, said that nominations for the 222 parliamentary and 587 state seats have been set for April 28.
