CONNECTMe to offer broadband, promises 100% country coverage

The landing page of new broadband player, ConnectMe promises data for all.

PETALING JAYA: A new broadband service provider CONNECTme is entering the Malaysian market, promising 100% coverage of the country using satellite based transmission.

CONNECTme said it would launch the service on March 8, and in the meantime was taking registration of interest through its website and mobile app.

“We are levelling the playing field for those without home broadband. Experience 100% coverage throughout Malaysia,” it posted on its website, adding that it would be accessible even to those without fibre cables.

Customers would be required to install an antenna on a wall or roof and an RF cable from the antenna into the home which connects to a satellite modem.

The service will be offering data at speeds of up to 15Mbps (megabits per second), on a best effort basis.

It warned that rain could cause the service to slowdown, with excessive rain possibly causing outages longer than 30 minutes.

The website listed three packages: CONNECTme@Home fixed and on-demand, and @COMMUNITY.

CONNECTme@Home fixed offers 25GB of data monthly at RM450, while CONNECTme@Home on-demand offers pay-as-you-use data at RM25 per 1GB plus an RM500 annual fee.

CONNECTme@COMMUNITY allows subscribers to connect to the service’s WiFi hotspots at RM10 per 1GB.

While the CONNECTme@Home packages come with an RM500 installation fee, the CONNECTme@COMMUNITY does not require installation.
