Unlike magnetic hard disks, an SSD drive does not need to be defragmented. This function of the operating system can simply be turned off, German specialist magazine Chip is reminding the tech community.
This can be done by right-clicking on the SSD drive symbol in Windows Explorer. Select "properties”, then click Tools/Defragment Now/Modify Schedule and then "Select volumes" to uncheck the box next to the drive. Then close the window by clicking OK.
