Regional job portal JobStreet.com today confirmed via an e-mail circular by its CEO Suresh Thiru that the data breach that was first reported in late October was indeed true.
However, its investigations found only “some personal information” related to accounts created before July 2012 were exposed.
“When you trust us with your personal information, you naturally expect the information to be safeguarded, and our team is continuously enhancing our security measures for all users information stored with JobStreet.com,” according to Suresh in the e-mail.
“This includes the password reset exercise in January 2017. Since passwords have been reset, your JobStreet.com account is secure.”
The data breach was believed to be part of the largest breach ever seen in the country, which also affected some 46.2 million telco subscribers and tens of thousands from the Malaysian Medical Council, Malaysian Medical Association and Malaysian Dental Association.
Among the information leaked are sensitive details such as home addresses, MyKad numbers and even SIM card information, which were posted for sale on lowyat.net’s online forum.
The posts have since been taken down by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and an investigation is currently underway, according to MCMC and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
