In response to the Prime Minister’s Budget 2017 announcement, Telekom Malaysia (TM) has announced plans to upgrade subscribers on its various broadband packages starting in January 2017.
However, these upgrades won’t be immediate and will be carried out in stages for all eligible customers.
TM is still working out the details, so there are no firm plans as yet but it looks like UniFi customers will get upgraded to the next higher speed plan for the same price.
For example, customers on the VIP5 plan (RM149) will get upgraded to 10Mbps for the same price.
Interestingly, since TM is no longer offering a VIP20 plan, customers on the VIP10 plan may be upgraded to the Advance Plan 30 which costs the same but offers 30Mbps speeds.
Meanwhile, customers who are already on the VIP20 plan and Advance 30 plans will get upgraded to the UniFi Advance 50 plan, while Advance 50 customers will get upgraded to the UniFi Pro 100 plan.
Apparently, TM will try to move people to the price plan that is the closest to what the customer is paying right now, even if that means moving him or her to a speed higher than just double the speed.
Additionally, TM will also be introducing a new broadband package for non-Unifi customers next year.
To date, Telekom Malaysia boasts more than 2.37 million broadband customers, of whom over 900,000 are UniFi subscribers.
