Robust device: Zone can cope with the rigorous demands of PE classes.

Teaming up with US-based physical education evangelist Interactive Health Technologies, sportswear firm Adidas has revealed the Zone, a wrist-based heart rate monitor.

Designed for use in a school class setting, and compatible with the IHT Spirit curriculum and assessment management system, the Adidas Zone aims to supply the sort of data that enables a more contoured approach to high schools' physical fitness.

"From quick tap-and-go syncing enabled by built-in NFC to student-proof durability as well as all-day performance with enough memory and power to keep up with a busy school schedule, the device is equipped to stand up to the rigorous demands of PE classes across the country," Adidas explained in a statement to the press.

First announced at CES in January 2015, the kit is being unveiled in advance of a new US school year beginning August 2016. —  AFP Relaxnews
