Terminator talk: Hawkins believes intelligent machines could overtake the human race if left unchecked.

Two months after fans were invited to ask Stephen Hawking questions on the Reddit Ask Me Anything forum – which became the third-largest AMA in Reddit's history – the site has posted his answers on the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Earlier this year, Stephen Hawking, along with Bill Gates, Elon Musk and many other top names in science and tech, signed an open letter imploring researchers to proceed with caution in developing artificial intelligence. The fear? That intelligent machines could overtake the human race if left unchecked.

In July, over 9,000 comments were submitted to an open AMA thread for Hawking. After selecting and responding to questions at his own pace, answers from the physicist have now been posted.

In addition to discussing the risks of artificial intelligence, Hawking also answers a few other burning questions from fans, including his favorite song (Have I Told You Lately by Rod Stewart); his favourite movie (Jules et Jim, 1962) and the last thing he found online that he found hilarious (The Big Bang Theory). — AFP Relaxnews
