We learned a few interesting tidbits at a press conference ahead of the annual Tokyo Game Show. Sony’s upcoming virtual reality system, previously codenamed Project Morpheus, has now been christened PlayStation VR.
Sony also revealed the VR titles that it will showing off at TGS – expect to see Shin Sangokumusou 7 (also known as Dynasty Warriors 8), Hatsune Miku, Final Fantasy XIV Online and Summer Lesson.
However, it has yet to announce the official release dates for the titles.
Sony is also making its PS4 available in a multitude of colours. The faceplate now comes in purple, red, light blue, yellow, silver and gold while the rest of the body remains the standard black or white.
However, the new colours are limited to the PlayStation store in Japan for now.
It also unveiled four new colours for the DualShock 4 controller – gold, silver, steel black and (translucent) crystal – at this point it's unclear if they are limited to Japan also.
The PS4 console will also see a price cut in Japan and will go for 34,980 yen (RM1,250) starting Oct 1.
Finally, Japan will be getting the beta for PlayStation Now, its Cloud gaming service which has until now been exclusive to the United States, Canada and Britain.
The subscription-based service is device agnostic, allowing players to enjoy over 100 old and new games on their Sony PlayStation devices without having to download the huge game files.
