It’s Carnivale time!

In the mood for some fun when the school holidays hit? Then head over to Tropicana City Mall for a fun-filled three days of laughs and self-discovery at The Star Online Carnivale!

Why are we hosting a carnival? Read on to find out.

The Star has been inspiring people for 40 years and we are more than just a leading source for news. We’re also a collection of portals, each with its own distinct personality, quirks and content focus. But why sit and read (about us that is, do read us, please) when we’ve put aside three days to demonstrate that we really do walk the talk.

While you’re getting to know a bit more about The Star Online family via the slew of activities we’ve got planned — don’t worry, we have also scrounged up a pretty cool collection of prizes to top off what we’re sure is going to be an excellent weekend.

Got a thing for gadgets and games? So do the team behind TechCentral and their job is to bring you the latest and greatest in the technology game.

Gamers, geeks and the curious alike can come forth and test their skills in the videogame competition. Always been a character? Come take part in the cosplay competition or get some advice on how to get started.

If originality is your middle name, how about telling us what kind of superhero you’d be? Dress up, strut around and put your alter ego up for vote by the public!

Did we mention the lightsabre duelling performances? The Force is strong with us on this one. HTC is setting up booths to showcase their latest models, the Sensation, Radar and Rhyme. HTC is also giving out RM15,000 worth of goodies to you, our readers. So, do take part in our contests to stand a chance to walk away with a brand new smartphone.

Any Nerf fans out there? There will be a Nerf gun firing range with representatives from the Nerf Community Malaysia and Nerftour on hand to teach you some tips and tricks.

Much rather have the latest gossip from the red carpet? Recommendations for the hottest new music acts in town? For all your entertainment news there’s eCentral, run by a bunch of party animals who take their jobs very, very seriously.

What have they got in store for you at the Carnivale? Well how about free tickets to eCentral.my’s Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 special premiere screening for starters?

Because the young guns have all the energy, the R.Age team couldn’t resist jumping on board for the festivities. It’s all about empowering youth with this bunch.

Get pumped with the dodgeball demonstrations and workshops by MAD (Malaysian Association of Dodgeball). Or test out your performance chops in the Busking competition, you just need to bring along your own instrument and groupies (you know, just in case). Busker with the most votes wins prizes from Universal Music.

For contemporary women who demand content that speaks to them, CloveTwo steps in to get the job done. This virtual counterpart to Clove, The Star’s monthly pullout is there for women to come in, connect, and collect. Shopaholics, fashionistas and power suits welcomed. Hey kids, can you spell good? Gooroo has some good words to spell and if you are spot on, you’ll win some prizes.

Come join our Spelling Bee courtesy of Brain Bytes on Saturday, at 1pm and 5pm. Bee there or Bee square! To warm up a day of shopping at Tropicana City Mall, the CloveTwo team will be showcasing the Henry Cats & Friends famous Artstones and collectables. Discounts? You bet.

If claiming victory in the proverbial rat race is the goal, you know that getting the right job is half the battle won. For the crew behind MyStarJob.com it’s all about options, and we’d be lying if they didn’t think of themselves as matchmakers. In fact, they’ve cooked up an interactive card game that’ll reveal what job suits you best. We’ve tried and yes, it’s scarily accurate.

Home is where the heart’s supposed to be but as anyone can tell you, in the property game it comes down to location, location, location. To get you started for decorating that dream home, the team behind StarProperty.my have organised a DIY workshop by Terra Gardens. This is Malaysia and we live to eat so do we even need to introduce Kuali.com?

To further cement their place in your stomachs, they’re baking up a smorgasbord of confectionaries and pastries courtesy of Malaysian Institute of Baking, just for you.

You have likely already read in The Star about the Bid & Win contest where you stand a chance to win more than RM300,000 worth of prizes by just collecting “Star Points” from the newspaper’s front page until Jan 2012. To find out more about this contest, jointly organised with UOB (Malaysia) Bhd, come talk to our Circulation Dept team during The Star Online Carnivale.

As energetic and resourceful as The Star Online group is, we couldn’t have put together this weekend of fun alone.

Partners and sponsors who’ve jumped on board to help make the Carnivale happen include HTC, Coffee Bean, Gamer’s Hideout, MaGaCon, FightSaberMy, Cosplay Fun, GSC Cinemas, Edaran Nusantara Films, Terra Garden and Hasbro, BrainBytes, MAD, Outpost Events, Henry Cats & Friends, Universal Music, Malaysian Institute of Baking and Body Shop.

The Star Online Carnivale will be held at the main concourse area of Tropicana City Mall from Friday, Nov 18 until Sunday, Nov 20.

The fun begins from 11am right up till 7pm. Drop by for the sights, stay for the laughs!
