PETALING JAYA: Apple has updated their Macbook Pro line of laptop computers to offer better performance and longer lasting battery life.
Aesthetically, the new Macbook Pros look identical to the previous versions but the components under the hood have changed to include faster processors, a more powerful graphics processor and longer lasting battery life.
The 13in Macbook Pro models will now include faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 4GB RAM and new nVidia GeForce 320M graphics processor. The 13in models will be available in two configurations: one with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 250GB hard drive while another with a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 320GB hard drive.
The new 15in and 17in Macbook Pro models will feature Intel’s new 32nm Core i5 and i7 processors, allowing the laptops to run faster than previous systems. Benefits from the new Core i5 and i7 processor include Hyper-Threading technology for creating virtual processing cores and Turbo Boost, which optimises performance between cores and accelerate the system.
All 15in and 17in models will include two graphics processors — one dedicated nVidia GeForce GT330M for heavy duty tasks like running games or photo- and video-editing; and an embedded Intel HD Graphics integrated processor.
These new laptops have a new automatic graphics switching feature that alternates between the two processors to deliver performance when needed and scaling back when not in use to preserve battery life.
The 15in Macbook Pro model comes in several different configurations with the lowest starting with a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 320GB hard disk while the highest end model features a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 500GB hard disk.
The 17in model comes with 2.53GHz Intel Core i5 and 500GB hard disk.
Apple claims that the new batteries on the Macbook Pros can last up to nine hours on a single charge.
Local prices for Macbook Pro 13in start from RM3,899 while the Macbook Pro 15in starts at RM5,899. The Macbook Pro 17in model is priced at RM7,899.
