POCKET POWER: 1973 arcade hit "Space Invaders" became an iOS app in 2009.

Warner Bros has acquired the movie license for classic video game Space Invaders and attached superproducer Akiva Goldsman.

Introduced in 1978 and now a cultural icon — thanks in part to international urban artist Invader — and Warner Bros is now looking to adapt it for film.

Goldsman, who has produced award-winning biopics A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella Man as well as sci-fi film I, Robot, is joined in a production capacity by Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow) and Tory Tunnell (Awake, 2016's King Arthur), reports The Wrap

As for narrative, information about the project is sparse, though 2010 Earth defence film Pixels lifts heavily from the iconography of Space Invaders as well as Tetris and Pac-Man; Sony's Columbia Pictures has a feature-length action-comedy adaptation in production for 2015, with Chris Columbus at the helm and leading roles held down by Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, Kevin James and Peter Dinklage. — ©AFP/Relaxnews 2014
