CONDUCTING oneself responsibly in the digital world is essential to ensure that our online interactions remain respectful, creating an environment free from harassment, misinformation and harmful behaviour.
To instil these principles locally, TikTok, the global mobile video platform, has launched the #ThinkTwice digital safety campaign, in collaboration with local NGOs and creators, to empower Malaysians to take an active role in fostering a safe, positive and responsible digital environment.
#ThinkTwice is built around encouraging Malaysians to reflect on their digital behaviour, making them consider the impact of what they share, comment or post online.
“At TikTok, we encourage our users to have the freedom and opportunity to express themselves authentically and creatively in a safe and positive environment,” says TikTok Malaysia public policy head Anuar Fariz Fadzil.
“Through #ThinkTwice, we want to empower Malaysians to take responsibility for their online actions and encourage them to contribute to a healthy and positive online community."

Digital responsibility
At the heart of the campaign is a message of self-regulation, urging users to think critically before posting or engaging with content online.
“Through the #ThinkTwice campaign with TikTok, we encourage the practice of self-regulation by being mindful of the content we share and respectful of the comments we post,” says Communications and Multimedia Content Forum Malaysia (CMCF) chief executive officer Mediha Mahmood.
“Our interactions in the digital world reflect who we are as individuals and as a society. We owe it to ourselves to be a positive example that others can look up to and follow.”
The goal is to inspire the community to make conscious decisions that contribute to a safer and more respectful online environment.
Collaborative effort
For the #ThinkTwice campaign, TikTok has joined forces with NGOs such as CMCF, All Women’s Action Society (Awam) and Mental Illness Awareness and Support Association (Miasa).
By working with these organisations, the platform provides the community easy access to credible information and resources to better understand how their online actions affect others.
Additionally, TikTok is also collaborating with influential local TikTok creators, such as Yimo the Tapir (@yimotapir), ggatorart (@ggatorart) and Wfsufina (@wfsufina), to help spread the #ThinkTwice movement through a community-driven approach.
Educational outreach
TikTok’s #ThinkTwice campaign goes beyond raising awareness – it provides users with practical tools and educational materials via an extensive resource hub to help them navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
The hub showcases educational materials about TikTok’s Community Guidelines, offers tips on its safety features, provides support channels for NGOs and highlights inspiring content by local creators.
Furthermore, the platform will be organising a series of LIVE sessions in line with World Mental Health Day in October, featuring sharing sessions with mental health professionals, experts and live creators.
These sessions consist of important conversations around mental health and will provide viewers with invaluable resources on how to protect their digital well-being.
Join the #ThinkTwice movement
TikTok is encouraging its wider community to use the #ThinkTwice hashtag to play a more active role in fostering safer communities by learning more about the Community Guidelines, spreading awareness and reporting violative content.
It serves as a reminder that every online action has a real-world impact, and it is up to the community to ensure that this impact is positive.
Join TikTok in keeping the internet a safe, vibrant and inclusive environment for everyone. #ThinkTwice before you post to help build a better digital community.
