Aifa, Aira and Sivasangari advance to Australian Open quarters

PETALING JAYA: Three Malaysian women's squash players have booked their spots in the Australian Open quarter-finals.

In the second-round matches at Sandgate Squash Club in Brisbane on Wednesday (March 11), eighth seed Aifa Azman was first in action and had little trouble defeating France's Marie Stephan 11-9, 11-9, 11-4 in 31 minutes.

Top seed S. Sivasangari also progressed comfortably after beating England's Grace Gear 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 in just 24 minutes.

Aifa's younger sister Aira Azman, who played later, faced a tougher test against Hong Kong's Tomato Ho.

The sixth seed was pushed to five games before sealing an 11-4, 12-10, 8-11, 5-11, 11-6 win in 44 minutes to secure her place in the last eight.

The victory set up an all-Malaysian clash between Aira and Sivasangari, while Aifa will face fourth seed Nele Gilis.
