Sanjay stuns top seed to reach Open International Niort final in France

PETALING JAYA: National squash player Sanjay Jeeva stormed into the Open International Niort Venise Verte final in France after stunning top seed Patrick Rooney of England in the semi-finals on Friday (Nov 14).

Third seed Sanjay had to go the distance in a five-set battle but emerged victorious, defeating Rooney 6-11, 13-11, 11-9, 7-11, 11-8 in 74 minutes at the Squash du Marais in Bessines.

Hopes for an all-Malaysian final were dashed when national player Addeen Idrakie fell to England’s Ben Smith in the other semi-final. Eighth seed Addeen started strong but was outpaced by seventh seed Smith, who secured a 17-15, 11-6, 11-7 victory.
