Double joy for squash as men and women emerge as Asia team champions

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia enjoyed a double joy when the national men and women squash teams as were crowned as the winners in the Asia Team Championships in Dalian, China on Sunday (June 16).

The men’s team led by Asian Games gold medal winner Ng Eain Yow defeated Hong Kong 2-1 in the final.

Eain Yow stood solid to deliver the first point by beating Lau Tsz Kwan 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 but Addeen Idrakie dropped a point when he couldn’t get the better of Henry Leung. He lost 11-4, 7-11, 2-11, 7-11.

C. Ameeshenraj handled the pressure well in the deciding match to triumph with a 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 win over Tang Ming Hong to clinch the winning point.

The women's team led by S. Sivasangari had it easier when they knocked out Hong Kong 2-0.

Asiad double gold medallist Sivasangari toiled hard to beat Ho Tze Lok 10-12, 13-11, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8 for more than an hour to hand the first point

And Rachel Arnold stepped up to seal the title with an 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 win in 27 minutes against Tong Tsz Wing.
