PETALING JAYA: National champion Ivan Yuen came out on top in Division 1 final of the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) in-house tournament at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil.
Top seed Ivan defeated Addeen Idrakie 5-11,11-8,11-3,11-7 in a grueling encounter yesterday but he thoroughly enjoyed himself in the handicap tournament.
“It was really a tiring final, we’ve been playing from day one with handicaps. We had players starting with plus four and the seeded players starting from negative four or three. It was really challenging and also fun to have this type of competition, ” said the 30-year-old.
“Addeen did very well to win the first set and by the the last two sets, both of us were left exhausted. I think my experience made all the difference as I managed to hang in there for the win.”
“We thank SRAM and the National Sports Council (NSC) for allowing us to compete because it gets monotonous to just train daily. We can see all the players showed good effort.”
Ivan will next compete in the SRAM’s second in-house tournament from Dec 9-13 which is a doubles event.
He will partner Syafiq Kamal in the men’s doubles for the first time and admitted that both of them have to quickly adapt.
