Misfiring Johnathan comes home from Paris

It's over: Johnathan's campaign is over in his second Olympic Games stint.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s wait to see a shooter in an Olympic Games final continues.

National shooter Johnathan Wong could only finish 26th in the 10m air pistol qualification after scoring 570 points at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux on Saturday (July 27).

Only the top eight make the cut for the final.

Serbia’s Damir Mikec finished first with a score of 584, while Italy’s Nilo Maldini finished second with 581.

Germany’s Christian Reitz was third with 580. The best Asian finisher was South Korea’s Lee Won-ho, who finished fourth with 579.

Since Malaysia took part in the Olympics for the first time since 1956, no Malaysian shooter has qualified for any event final.

Currently, the best Malaysian finisher in the games is 25m rapid-fire pistol shooter Hasli Izwan Amir Hasan, who finished 15th in the qualification round of the 2008 Beijing Games.
