PETALING JAYA: Nationwide Nadi 7s, powered by a strong line-up of Fijians, captured the Borneo Sevens men’s title with an emphatic victory at the Eagles Rugby Club Stadium in Sandakan.
Nadi comfortably defeated Kazakhstan 38-5 in the final on Sunday.
Nadi, who defeated Uzbekistan 44-0 in the semi-finals earlier, went unbeaten throughout the tournament. Kazakhstan had beaten Eagles Rugby Club 24-19 to book their place in the final.
The Bunga Raya Sevens (national) development squad ended their campaign by lifting the plate after beating Fizzpapa Belgium Rugby 7s 21-10 in the final.
The Bunga Raya squad had beaten DKI Jakarta 31-12 while Fizzpapa downed the Malaysian Universities side 33-7 in the plate semi-finals.
The women’s competition saw home side Borneo Flyers clinching a popular win after beating Uzbekistan 19-5 in the final.
The Flyers had a strong overall outing and were also unbeaten in the round robin stage.
