KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia may find it tough to win a promotion in the boys’ Under-19 Asia rugby tournament.

The winners of the final Division Two matches between Malaysia and United Arab Emirated (UAE) will be promoted to Division One.

Malaysia play UAE at the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) pitch tomorrow and the return match will be played at the same venue on Dec 18.

National coach is ruing over lack of preparation. The team only started training on Dec 1 with 43 players and it will be trimmed to 25 today.

“We lack the necessary preparation. It’s difficult to prepare a strong team in just 10 days of training and choose the best players for the two matches,” said Farid.

“The players did not get to play even a friendly match. I’ve to find the right combination to play the two matches in a short time.”

He added that UAE are strong contenders as they had beaten them in the same tournament two years ago in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia featured in Division One in the tournament in 2017 but they were relegated this year after failing to put up a team in the tournament last year due to financial constraint.
