Padel duo Christian-Aidan settle for silver

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian padel pair Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus settled for the silver medal after losing to top seeds Mashari Naif and Rashed Naif in the men's doubles final at the Asian Games on Saturday (Oct 3). 

Christian and Aidan were unable to match the strength of their Qatar opponents, going down 3-6, 1-6 in 55 minutes In the final held at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Centre. 

Christian-Aidan though can still give each other a big pat on their shoulders for putting up a gallant charge to reach the final by defeating the second seeds from Iran Farsad Shahi-Amirmohammad Jamshidi in the semi-final on Friday.

Christian and Aidan bounced back from a set down to secure a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory, thereby assuring Malaysia of a medal by entering the final showdown.

They had defeated the Philippine pair of Jason Lapidus and Argil Canizares in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

There was hope that the duo could take Malaysia’s gold medal tally to 10. Malaysia have won nine golds so far, equalling their best-ever haul achieved at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.
