PETALING JAYA: Selangor signed off the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) in style, emerging overall champions after 10 days of competition with a haul of 101 golds, 73 silvers and 71 bronzes.
Selangor's achievement is more memorable this time as the contingent surpassed their previous best achievement when the state hosted the Sukma 28 years ago, exceeding 80 gold medals.
Federal Territories finished runner-up with 51 gold, 54 silver and 52 bronze while Terengganu were third with 43-44-36.
Last edition's winners Sarawak settled at the fourth sport with a medal haul of 41-40-62.
Selangor's most number of gold medals came from the pool with swimmers delivering 20.
And their star swimmer Eliza Tan is set to be named as the Games’ best female athlete after winning seven golds and breaking the national women’s 100m freestyle record twice in a single day.
Gymnastics, muay thai and silambam athletes also did well to contribute five each while four each came from bowling, cycling BMX, and chess.
Pahang's shooter Cheah Zen Hong also stole the show for Pahang as he won nine gold medals - the biggest haul by a single athlete in the Games.
