SHAH ALAM: Perlis’ Putri Nurrafqistina Damia Roshidi thought moving up a weight class would make life easier.

She was in for a rude awakening.

The competition was tougher, but the 18-year-old rose to the challenge and conquered it.

Putri claimed her second Malaysia Games (Sukma) gold medal yesterday after she defeated Terengganu’s Fu Chervyn 2-0 in the girls' 73kg kyorugi event at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC).

Putri was elated to have doubled her gold medal tally after winning the 49kg category at the 2024 Sarawak Games.

"It’s not easy. I was so tired because all I could do and had to do was to eat, train, sleep, and repeat. That’s it," she said.

"I changed my weight class because I thought that the higher category would be somewhat easier.

"I was wrong, though. It’s quite tough. But despite that, I’m glad to have proved that I can achieve success in a different category."

Putri’s win also delivered Perlis’ first gold medal at the Games.

"I wasn’t even aware that my gold was the first for Perlis. I feel happy because I made my team, coaches, and parents proud.

Her win was made even better after her older brother, Rafieqqie Danish Roshidi, delivered Perlis’ second gold medal by beating Terengganu’s B. Arun Raj Ram 2-0 in the boys’ 74kg category.
