Aniq weighs up two options as he prepares for Asiad

PETALING JAYA: Commonwealth Games gold medallist Aniq Kasdan will get a short break at home before he resumes preparations for next month’s Asian Games in Japan.

The 24-year-old is unsure whether he will remain in Malaysia for his last leg preparation or head overseas as he did to Turkiye before the Commonwealth Games.

Thanks to the Turkiye training, Aniq did the country proud by rewriting the Games record and winning gold in Glasgow in the 60kg category with a total of 273kg in the clean (112) and jerk (152).

“So far, it could be either overseas or locally, I’m not sure yet,” said Aniq.

Aniq knows it will not be an easy field to go up against in Japan, but he is aiming to raise the bar once again.

“I want to break the national record again and I want to do my best because the competition is going to be very strong.

“My opponents will be Olympians but I will still try to win a medal,” he said.

But first, Aniq wants to enjoy his mother’s cooking.

“It’s been such a long time since I’ve had Malaysian food. I’ve missed my mother’s home-cooked food, of course,” he said after returning home on Saturday.

“Breakfast in Turkiye was usually just bread. So now I hope to enjoy some Malaysian dishes.
