PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s dancesport athletes strengthened their case to have the sport contested at the SEA Games next year after winning two gold medals at the Hanoi Open.

National dancer Geoi Ree Gyn scored 95 points to take the gold in the women's solo latin while her teammate Yeow Kai Wen came in third (86) last weekend. Taiwan’s Kang Hsin-ni finished second (90).

In the standard discipline, Loh Yi Wei-Yap Wan Xin clinched gold in the Asia stars adult standard but settled for fourth in the open category.

Another pair Vincent Lee-Madeleine Lau qualified for the final in the open discipline after just competing together four months ago.

National coach Chua Zhen Fong said: "It was a valuable international exposure and competitive experience for our athletes against some of the strongest dancesport nations in the region."
